We are "Languages in London"
A highly diverse and international community, from across the world and a variety of backgrounds, with one thing in common - Weโ™ฅ๏ธLanguages

Our language exchanges have the most international languages (over 50) and the most countries (over 80) represented in our twice weekly language exchange and social events in London. We have over 100 participants attending our twice weekly events and have had over 130 attendees in our weekend events alone!

We announced our arrival, with a launch party on Friday 22nd September 2023 ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅ‚

Since then, we've already organised over 160 events and consistently have the largest number of countries and languages represented in our twice weekly events. Others may copy our event descriptions and even our branding, but there is only one "Languages in London" www.languages.london .. watch out for cheap imitations!

Many of us are multilingual and collectively we're fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, German, Russian, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Hindi, Arabic, Korean, Portuguese (including Brazilian), Polish, Turkish, Darija, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Greek, Swedish, Bengali, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Farsi, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Catalan, Urdu, Welsh, Czech, Gaelic, Estonian, Romanian, Thai, Vietnamese, Hebrew, Latvian, Slovakian, Punjabi, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Yoruba, Ebo, Creole (Mauritius and La Reunion), Afrikaans, Kurdish, Turkmen, Armenian, Kazakh, Tagalog, Nepali, Filipino, Tamazight, Mongolian, Icelandic, Sinhala, Malagasy, Twi, Tok Pisin and many more. Whatever your language, this is the event for you.

Language exchanges are definitely not all the same. We value quality over quantity. Give us a try and you'll quickly see the many differences between Languages in London and the others. Once you've tried the rest, come and experience the Best!

Note: These are NOT dating events.

Why join Languages in London?

  • Our events are open to Everyone...just follow a few simple community rules.
  • All languages and all fluency levels are welcome. Relax! We have no minimum language fluency requirements. If you just want to speak English, that's fine.
  • You're special ๐Ÿ’™ On arrival, we give every attendee a personalised and sustainable flag based languages badge and colour coded lanyards. It's your passport to starting a conversation with anyone, within seconds!
  • We care about your safety and well being. We don't tolerate harassment or prejudice of any kind, at any time.
  • All our language exchange events are hosted, from start to finish. We'll be there to Welcome you and help you with introductions or any questions you before, during or after our events.
  • Attending on your own? Don't worry, our super friendly community will make sure you're never alone.
  • No secret venues. Just check our events schedule on Meetup and make sure you confirm your place, for the event you want to attend. However we don't encourage walk-ins and strongly recommend you always confirm your place ASAP, as sometimes spaces are limited.
  • Guests are always welcome, but you need to let us know in advance, how many guests you're bringing.
  • Real events and real conversations with real people. Unlike other event groups we never artificially inflate or misrepresent our attendee numbers.
  • We occasionally spoil you with treats! These have included complimentary prosecco, soft drinks, sushi, pizza, sandwiches, pastries, mini bags of sweets, cake, chocolates and more ๐Ÿ˜Š
  • All of this and more and you contribute just ยฃ2 per event!

How it works...
At each language exchange, collect and wear your personalised and sustainable languages badge as soon as you arrive at the venue. This is an important event rule that applies to everyone.

As well as acting as an icebreaker your badge helps the bar staff identify you as a member of our community, so every time you buy your drinks and food, they know you're supporting them too. This helps us keep our dedicated events space.

Now you're ready to start having fun... lots of fun ๐Ÿ˜€

What we ask of you..

  • We host our language exchanges in specially selected bars and pubs, We ask all attendees to buy something from the bar (drinks and / or food),as this supports our wonderful venues, who give us our dedicated space every week.
  • Be respectful and polite to everyone. Others will reciprocate.
  • Look after your belongings. Remember the venues are public spaces.
  • Another simple rule - Be considerate. If you've confirmed your place at our events but can no longer attend, you should update your RSVP asap and definitely before the event starts. It only takes a few seconds. "No-shows" are ALWAYS removed from our group!
  • Have fun...lots of fun! ๐Ÿ˜„
  • Spread the word..If you enjoy our events, please consider posting a review and share your experiences with others, so we can grow YOUR community ๐Ÿ’œ Did we mention our 1100+ 5 star reviews! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Where are the events happening and how can you attend?
Please check our language exchange schedule on MeetUp or our dedicated website www.languages.london for the latest event information and remember to always confirm your place to attend our events.

What else?
We believe London is the most cosmopolitan city in the world. The people who live, work, study and travel to and through London speak hundreds of languages, from around the world.

Our community of both locals and internationals enjoy meeting like minded people on a regular basis, to make new friends, share experiences and of course practice and improve their language skills.

We were delighted to have had the opportunity to discuss details of Languages in London and it's activities on live radio with Winifred Robinson, the lovely presenter of the BBCs Radio 4 program "You and Yours". What a pleasure!

Who should come to our events?
Everyone, that is happy to meet Londoners and people from around the world in a fun, welcoming and safe space. People just like you๐Ÿ˜Š

Our events are open to everyone, whether you speak one language or youโ€™re a polyglot. Whether you're joining us on your own or with a group of friends or colleagues, everyone gets the same warm welcome. Always๐Ÿ’™

What you can expect
Weโ€™ll introduce ourselves and then help you join the event, with a little help of your own personalised languages badge.

Your badge will help you to start up a conversation and exchange with other community members, within seconds!

Sustainability - As well as Languages, we love our planet too. We sanitise (with anti bacterial and anti viral cleaners), re-use and recycle all badges and lanyards that are used at our events. Like you, we strongly believe sustainability and caring for the environment are vitally important ๐ŸŒณโ™ป๏ธ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š

Another simple rule - Please remember to return your badge before you leave the event. This helps us keep the event sustainable and our costs down. Thank you for being kind to our planet โ™ป๏ธ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒ

Ready to join the community?
Nothing boosts your confidence and spoken fluency (or is more fun!) than practicing with others. Our events are a really fun and easy way to learn about the world around us and each other's cultures, history and so much more.

Youโ€™ll love our community and the venues we use. Weโ€™re confident, youโ€™ll be back again and again!

New Venues
Do you know of a really nice pub, bar or cafe that would like to host us regularly? Nominate them or ask them to get in touch. If your nominated venue is chosen as a regular venue, we'll give you a thank you gift after we've held our 5th event there ๐Ÿ˜Š
