Join Lansing Codes for a fun and informative evening as we prepare for the world’s biggest open-source celebration—Hacktoberfest! Whether you’re a seasoned contributor or a total beginner, this hands-on prep session will get you ready to make meaningful contributions, earn swag, and give back to the open source community.
What is Hacktoberfest?
Hacktoberfest is a month-long event every October that encourages developers to contribute to open-source software. Make four or more quality pull requests during the month, and you’ll earn exclusive swag, community recognition, and the satisfaction of supporting projects you care about.Why Attend Our Prep Session?
We’re focusing on projects that power the Lansing Codes community, so your contributions will have real local impact! Plus, we’ll help you every step of the way.What we’ll cover:
✅ Hacktoberfest 101 (rules, tips, and how to participate)
✅ Repo Tour (our Vue.js website, API, and community tools)
✅ Git & GitHub Crash Course (great for beginners!)
✅ Issue Triage (find and label issues for contribution)
✅ Dev Environment Setup (get your laptop ready to code)
✅ October Event Planning (help shape our main Hackathon!)Who Should Attend?
