This is another "cottage country" paddle. It's a quiet, relaxing time Up North camping and paddlng, with all that Traverse City offers as a bonus.

Arbutus lake is actually 4-5 lakes connected together, located southeast of Traverse City in the Forest Lakes area. The shores are dotted with cottages and year round homes, a few resorts, and 1-2 YMCA or Scout camps. But it is wild enough that you may see a bald eagle or hear a loon call.

We will camp at the Arbutus lake state forest campground . There is a small beach for launching, and some sites are on the shore as well. Campsites can not be reserved, but are available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. I plan to leave friday morning to get something on the water. Sites are about $20 per day, and a state parks rec sticker is needed. Most sites will accomodate a small RV or camper, but a few are "carry in" only - you park nearby, and carry everything the last 100-200 feet.
