Simulation Hypothesis - and its implications for living a meaningful life

For our last meeting before we break for the summer, I thought it would be engaging, thought-provoking, and even entertaining to consider the possibility that we are living in a simulation.

We have spent an overwhelming proportion of our time considering what golden threads exist within the sacred traditions and depth psychology; so, let's see if our current understanding of modern physics has anything to contribute to the conversation.

Here are some reasons why this discussion might be meaningful:

• It is exponentially growing in popularity - especially among the scientists and philosophers trying to make sense of what we are leaning.

• It is the best explanation (only?) that reconciles Newtonian physics (the physics of the very large) with quantum physics (the physics of the very small). It is a strong candidate to be The Theory of Everything that has proved so elusive for those who thought string theory would eventually bridge the divide

• It is quite the possibly the bridge to reconnect science and spirituality which have been severed since The Catholic Church threatened to burn Galileo on the stake.

• It answers the question: Does consciousness arise from the material world, or does the "material world" become manifested through consciousness? In other words, what is more fundamental to reality - matter or consciousness?

• If we are living in a simulation, what implications does that have for us? What is programmed into the system? In other words, "What are the rules of the game?"

During our time together, we will break down in layman's terms the following topics:

• The double-slit experiment(s) (the original and subsequent iterations of this experiment in recent decades)
• The speed of light - the speed limit of the universe
• Entangled particles
• Plank Length
• E8

If you are not familiar with these topics, don't let them intimidate you. This discussion / presentation will be done in a way that anyone can understand.
