  • Dogtoberfest
DogtoberFEST 2018 DogtoberFEST is CARMAA’s premier animal adoption event. This celebration of adoption has been held the first weekend of October since 2010! Through DogtoberFEST, CARMAA promotes our goal of educating the public about the number of resources that are available for adopting a companion animal. DogtoberFEST is an outdoor festival and showcase for the many healthy and adoptable animals that are waiting for homes at more than 100 rescues and shelters in the Western Pennsylvania region. And, our event also helps to bring animal rescues and shelters together for one day as a collective community of compassionate people, advocating every day for homeless animals. Working together, these organizations will educate our DogtoberFEST attendees on the benefits of adopting a pet instead of buying an animal through a newspaper ad or pet store. Come meet your new best friend at DogtoberFEST! DATE: Oct 6, 2018 TIME: 11:00 pm – 3:00 pm LOCATION: The Waterfront, 149 WBridge St, Homestead, Pa. 15120 We will have close to 100 vendors, rescues & shelters. We will have a dogenrichment trail and an Art Show featuring artists from the North Hills Art Center! And don’t forget our pet costume contest! We will be giving away $500 in prizes! • CANCELLING OUR DOG GROUP DUE TO HEAT! Crafton Celebrates Parade
The parade is still happening. However, after consulting two veterinarians, I have serious concerns about dogs going down with heatstroke due to being out in the heat with no shade for two hours while walking the one mile parade route. I am also concerned about paw pad injuries from the hot pavement. Thus, I am pulling our dog group from participation in the parade. You are free to still take your dog to spectate. You will then have control of how long your pet is outdoors and can leave at any time. • What we'll do Walk with your fellow dog owners and their dogs in the 2018 Crafton Celebrates Parade. The parade kicks off five days of fun in Crafton. Line-up for the parade begins at 1:00 p.m. -- 1:30 p.m., and the parade begins at 2:00 p.m. We have an 8 foot wide banner identifying our group, which we will need three or four people to carry. We can also choose to dress in similar colors, to make our group look really sharp -- patriotic outfits would be awesome, since July 4 is right around the corner! It would also be lots of fun to plan something that we can toss to the parade watchers -- candy, tchotchkes -- to make our group really stand out. If you're willing to help with signage, vehicle(s), colors we should wear, or toss-outs, please indicate this in the discussion section of this Meetup event. For the sake of simplicity, to make a bigger impact, and to avoid buying three banners (one cost me $90, so I'm only supplying one LOL), we will be gathering three dog Meetup groups together. If you have any concerns for your smaller dogs walking with larger dogs, or vice versa, we can line up so small dogs can all walk together, and giant dogs can stick together. • What to bring Our dogs! Dressed up, if possible! Water for your dogs. Weather will be warm! I will strongly discourage Flexi-Leads and retractable leashes. Walking in a tight group, these leashes tend to create a safety issue. Instead, let's all shoot for using 4- or 6-foot leashes for our dogs. If your dog is elderly or less ambulatory, it's also completely acceptable and pretty cute to put your dog in a wagon and pull your dog along in the group.

  • Puzzles for Pooches, Western Allegheny Library Sun Feb 11th
Puzzles for Pooches @ Western Allegheny Library OAKDALE PA[masked] @ 3:00 Lisa Bartel is a Pet Services Provider who, in addition to physical exercise, provides pets in her care with Mental Enrichment activities. These activities break up a dog’s daily routine, giving them the opportunity to use their senses and discover. Studies show that 15 minutes of mental exercise is the equivalent of 60 minutes of physical exercise. Winter is a perfect time to try enrichment with your dog, when you may not be able to physically exercise safely outside. Come to this free workshop, which will include demonstrations of these activities and creating some easy homemade puzzles. • What to bring • Important to know Please, RSVP for this event using the link provided: http://westernalleghenylibrary.org/event/puzzles-for-pooches/
