Memorial Day Griffith Park Pack Walk
Details
Please read the entire UPDATED description before you RSVP.
REQUIREMENTS: Participants must submit a member form and participant release of liability each year. Click here to submit one. If you don't recall completing one this year, complete one now.
RULES:
First rule of our pack walks is to BE SAFE so that everyone has fun! All participants must comply with ALL guidelines below or will be asked to leave the event.
- Participants are limited to 26 people. RSVP is required to hold a spot. As soon as you know you cannot attend, cancel your reservation. We understand that last-minute changes occur; however, if you don't show up more than 2 times, you will be placed on the waitlist for future events.
- If you feel even slightly ill (including a headache, sniffles, minor fever, or even an allergy), do not attend this event. Stay home for your health and the safety of others. Remember to cancel your reservation.
- Maintain a 6-foot distance from other participants not in your household.
- Face mask/shield is optional. Please maintain a 6' distance from anyone choosing to wear a mask.
MEETING LOCATION: Meet at the grassy area near the merry-go-round. Here is a Google dropped pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/13pdeeUJCiz8ycBn7
PARKING: Free parking in the lots. Park in the first lot as that's closer to the meeting area, but if it's full you can park in the second one further up.
WATER AND TREATS: Bring lots of water for you and your dog. We may do some mental exercises, so bring treats for your pup, too!
PACK WALK DISTANCE: About 2 miles round trip. We will start around the merry-go-round to help relieve excess energy and then we can make the loop around the old zoo and throughout other parts of the park.
TRAIL: Paved/dirt/grass -- PLEASE familiarize yourself with foxtails, the barbed, seeded grass. They are dangerous in all stages of their life cycle, from the skinny, bright green ones to the fluffy, brown variations. They pose a great risk to your dog if the barbed seeds imbed into their eyes, nose, ears, mouth, paws, penis, or booty. We will do our best to avoid areas heavily populated with foxtails but nonetheless, stay vigilant to where your dog is sniffing and stepping.
DIFFICULTY: Easy, some slight incline at parts
DISTRACTION LEVEL: Medium (lots of squirrels, potential deer, park visitors, dogs, kids) -- this area can be quite buggy so come prepared with bug spray for you and your dog! Wondercide is a great pet and human safe natural flea and tick remedy.
LARPBO PACK WALK GUIDELINES:
#1 All dogs must be on a secure collar and leash. Dogs using e-collars must also be on a leash. Prong collars should be backed up with a carabiner. Short leashes are recommended (less than 6 feet). Retractable leashes and harnesses are not allowed as they provide little control.
#2 PLEASE NO NOSE TO NOSE CONTACT (dog to dog that is). Always maintain a six-foot distance between dogs. There should be no dog-on-dog interaction. Some of these teams have been walking together for a long time, and are comfortable walking closer together. If this is not you, assume all dogs need space and respect their bubble.
#3 Please bring doggie poo bags.
#4 Make sure you bring water for you and your dog.
#5 One dog per handler. No exceptions!
#6 Share the road. Move to the right to let others pass.
- All breeds welcome.
- There will be foot traffic, bikes, and several other dogs. If your dog tends to be reactive to any of these distractions, please be EXTRA mindful and prepared.
- If you have additional questions, please read the full basic LARPBO rules of conduct (https://www.meetup.com/LARPBOCOMMUNITY/messages/boards/thread/10461764/0/#39849559) in the discussion forum.
