Deploying Non-Rails Application Stuff with Capistrano by Charlie McElfresh

At Oversee, we use Capistrano to deploy our apps. But we also use it to do stuff like:

-- configure / start / stop / restart services like nginx using erb templates, so we can customize configuration files depending on environment

-- run rake tasks remotely

-- grab files from our server

I'm originally an internet marketing / product guy. I taught myself Rails several years ago, when I wanted to create an application that allowed me to deliver the Tonight Show schedule to myself via text / email gateway (Rails / Postfix). Now, I'm a Ruby Engineer in the Travel group at Oversee, working on new travel projects.

Parking

Parking in downtown LA can be cumbersome and cost money. Oversee.net highly recommends taking public transportation, as they are located 1.5 blocks north of the 7th/Metro Train Stop (Red, Purple, Blue, or Expo Lines), as well as various bus routes that can drop you in front of the building.

If you must drive, we recommend parking in the LA Central Library Parking Lot, which is literally across the street at 524 S. Flower St. The flat rate is $8 after 4pm, and is first-come, first-served basis. You may also park at the City National Parking Structure, located at 500 S. Flower St., but is more expensive and charges by the hour.

For those who wish to find street parking, please see this map of the meters and free spots after 6/7/8pm (please check all signs): http://g.co/maps/873az
