Epilepsy Together Peer Support — October: Understanding SUDEP (in honor of SUDEP Action Day, Oct 16)
This month, our peer support group will also talk about SUDEP—Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. It’s a sensitive topic that many avoid, yet talking about it can empower us with knowledge, reduce fear, and guide practical steps for safety and advocacy.
What to expect:
- Compassionate conversation led by lived experience
- Clear, plain-language facts about SUDEP (what it is and isn’t)
- Practical actions: risk-reduction tips, night-time safety ideas, and how to talk with your care team
- Community sharing: space to listen, reflect, and ask questions
- Resources you can take home
Who should attend: People living with epilepsy, parents and caregivers, friends, partners, and allies. All are welcome.
Community care notes:
- Content will include discussion of death and safety; feel free to step out, breathe, or re-join anytime.
- We aim for a supportive, judgment-free space. Respect, confidentiality, and consent are our ground rules.
