Shutter Up Vegas: Street Photography Meetup Group
Overview:
Shutter Up Vegas is a unique street photography meetup group designed to bring together photographers of all levels—whether you're just starting out or are a seasoned professional. The focus is on creating dynamic street and urban landscape images that tell compelling stories through the lens.
How It Works:
Meetups: Each meetup has a $25 participation fee. This fee helps cover event costs, and a portion of it is awarded to the winner of that day’s challenge.
Challenges: At the beginning of each meetup, an exciting challenge is presented to the group. The challenge format will vary depending on the group size or may be individual-based. Each challenge is randomly selected from a set of diverse photography styles, so every meetup offers a unique experience.
Challenges could range from capturing “The Unexpected Moment” in busy street scenes to “Urban Textures” in overlooked corners of the city.
The challenges are designed to encourage creativity, experimentation, and out-of-the-box thinking.
Group Placement:
Upon your first meetup, you'll be assessed based on your experience level (beginner, intermediate, or pro).
Based on your assessment, you’ll be grouped with people of similar experience levels to foster supportive and constructive competition.
Beginners will focus on mastering the basics of street photography, like composition, timing, and lighting.
Intermediate photographers will explore creative angles, storytelling, and dynamic moments.
Pros will be challenged with more complex themes, like capturing a narrative or evoking emotion through their images.
The Challenges:
The group will face a variety of challenges that can push boundaries, such as:
Candid Moments – Capturing people in the moment without them noticing.
Motion Blur – Playing with motion to create dynamic urban images.
Color Pops – Finding and highlighting one vivid color in an otherwise neutral scene.
Symmetry in the Chaos – Looking for balanced compositions amidst the hustle and bustle.
The Loneliness of the City – Finding moments of solitude in crowded urban settings.
The Competition:
An independent judge will select the winner based on the challenge criteria, which could include technical skill, creativity, and storytelling.
A portion of the participation fee is awarded to the challenge winner as a small reward for their hard work and creativity.
Winners may also receive perks, such as feature posts on the group's social media or an opportunity to lead the next meetup's challenge.
Networking & Growth:
Feedback & Collaboration: This is more than just about winning—Shutter Up Vegas is a community where feedback and collaboration are encouraged. Beginners learn from pros, and everyone shares insights and tips.
Group Exhibitions: There may be future opportunities for group exhibitions, where photographers can showcase their work outside of the meetups, helping to elevate their profiles and gain exposure.
