Robots in Space
Desert Research Institute , 755 East Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV, USHello LV Robotics!
For the next LV Robotics event we're featuring Robots in Space. Robots have been in space for nearly seven decades, since the launch of the first artificial satellite, the Soviet Union's Sputnik 1, on October 4, 1957. Since then, uncrewed robotic spacecraft have evolved from basic orbiting satellites to sophisticated landers, rovers, and orbiters that conduct scientific experiments, collect data, and even perform tasks on other worlds.
Investments in the space robotics market are experiencing strong growth, projected to reach approximately USD 10.9 billion by 2033 from USD 5 billion in 2023. Key investment drivers include the increasing demand for autonomous systems for satellite servicing, orbital construction, and planetary exploration. Major players like NASA and private companies are leading the way, with significant investment in AI-driven automation and advanced robotic systems.
Nevada is no stranger to the space industry--- the Nevada Challenger Program offers a STEM program for the next generation of astronauts and scientists and the Nevada Space Proving Grounds hosts the highest fidelity mission-scale Lunar/Martian testing facility in the country. The Nevada NASA Programs provides grants and funding for space innovation and research.
The future of space industries is increasingly defined by autonomous and AI-driven robotics, which will perform tasks like asteroid mining, in-orbit construction, base building on the Moon and Mars, and dangerous maintenance, with companies like SpaceX and NASA leading the charge. This integration is lowering costs and increasing access to space, enabling a new commercial space economy driven by robots performing specialized functions, freeing humans for exploration and scientific discovery.
We have some great speakers from the space and robotics industries-- we'll announce them soon!
Join us on October 23rd at Desert Research Institute for one LV Robotic's most interesting events of the year.
