Please read below what are the expectations of an advanced beginning player. In general, it's a player that has had some formal coaching, typically in high school.

If you don’t make the RSVP list I suggest you contact me prior to showing up to see if there is room. Otherwise I can't guarantee to get you on. I will prioritize those who made the list. If too many show and we can’t get another court I will restrict play to the people that made the RSVP list. I have 10-20 friends that also play so there won’t be room for everyone.

Everyone plays, nobody sits, unless we don't have enough for, or can't get a second court. If there's enough for a second court we will usually play 2s to 4s for the more advanced players. At the high beginning to intermediate level you should have learned the basic volleyball skills to pass, set, and hit the ball over the net with one hand consistently and be able to keep a rally going. We don't allow lifts, throws, or any kind of double contacts such as pushing the ball over the net with two hands unless it's a clean set. Slapping the ball with two hands to get it over the net or lifting the ball with two hands at your waist level will not be allowed. You should also know some basic court positioning and which balls are yours to get, you shouldn't be running into other players, the net, or going under the net (we do enforce net violations). This is for safety reasons. We aren't strict on the rules, we aren't too serious, and there won't be any stacked teams that stay on the court all night. If the teams are lopsided we mix it up next game... if they are competitive we play a best of 3 games, then mix it up so everyone gets a chance to play with different players. The games tend to get better later in the evening. Our primary goal is to have fun, keep everyone safe and maintain a base intermediate level of play. We do like to teach the less experienced players to improve their skills and the level of play. Come with an open mind, positive attitude, and willing to learn and have fun with a good group of people!
