Rim Lake Hike, Caribou Wilderness Area

Details
The Rim Lake hike is one of the better ones in the Caribou Wilderness. A moderate hike, approx 2.7 miles starting from the Caribou Lake Trailhead, passing Caribou Lake, "Hourglass Lake", Cowboy Lake, and Emerald Lake along the way, and a little ways past Rim lake is the cover photo, an overlook over "Paddle Lake" and North Caribou Peak. If you haven't been to the Caribou, it's a really nice area for day hikes or backpacking. The Caribou Wilderness Area abuts the eastern boundary of Lassen Volcanic National Park.
[Clarification - The estimated distance of 2.7 miles is the one-way distance from trailhead to Rim Lake.]
The trailhead is at about 6500 ft, Rim Lake is about 7100 ft, so expect a generally uphill walk on the way in with a couple steeper sections. On the plus side, it's all downhill on the way out.
Pack a lunch and water, sunscreen, etc., and to ward off any remaining mosquitos a long-sleeve shirt may be desired. This area burned in the Dixie Fire, so there is less shade on the trail than there used to be.
We can meet at 8:00 AM at the Safeway parking lot in Susanville, carpool as desired, and depart by 8:15 AM, which will put us at the trailhead by 9:15 AM or a bit after. The trailhead is just north of Silver Lake, and accessed from the paved County Road A-21 via the Silver Lake Road and the 10 Road, both of which are dirt/graveled roads. There are about 6 miles of dirt road from A-21 to the trailhead. Folks can also meet at the Caribou Lake Trailhead if desired, arriving by 9:15. For those meeting at Safeway in Susanville, let's meet on the Starbucks side of the parking lot, near Taco Bell, I'll have a silver Tacoma w matching camper shell.
