Mt. Williamson & Mt. Tyndall - 3 Day Trip

This will be an ambitious 3 day backpacking trip to summit the LVMC list's 2nd highest peak Mt. Williamson & neighboring 14'er Mt. Tyndall. Mt. Williamson, at 14,379 is the second tallest peak in CA and 6th highest in the lower 48. This is a strenuous hike/scramble and we will be spending a lot of time above 12k. The plan is to drive up Thursday, camp near the Shepherd Pass TH, then get an early start Friday morning with the goal of getting over Shepherd Pass (6k+ gain in 11 miles) and camping at one of the tarns at the base of Tyndall around 12k. Saturday we will attempt to summit both Williamson and Tyndall, camp another night in the high country then hike out and drive home Sunday. As mentioned, this is an ambitious schedule so please be prepared.

Distance: Roughly 27 miles
Elevation: Roughly 9,600+
Difficulty: Trail hike - Class 3/4 scrambling - Potential snow climbing

Requirements: Experience backpacking and camping at high altitude, and have the requisite gear. Bear cans are required for this area. Proficient scrambling up to class 4, good physical fitness. Depending on how the season plays out for the high Sierra, we may need to use ice axe + crampons for sections, so make sure those are in your bag of tricks.

All the usual caveats apply, I am not a guide and mountaineering is an inherently risky activity. You are solely responsible for your own safety and well-being. Trip will be wait list only, I have 8 spots on the wilderness permit. Once we get the group finalized we will start a whatsapp chat to co-ordinate carpools, tent and gear sharing etc.
