CAR CAMP & DAY HIKE: Bunker Hill (on LVMC 50 Peak List)

Details
Total Distance: 6 miles round trip
Total Elevation Gain: 3300'
Altitude: 8300' - 11,477'
Terrain Description: Mostly open country, with occasional use trails. Possible snow near the top.
Approximate Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
This a day hike to climb Bunker Hill, which is one of the LVMC 50 Classic Peaks, as well as the highpoint of Lander County. It is about a 4.5-5 hour drive from LV to the trailhead, which involves about 9 miles of dirt road, mostly well-graded and good until the last mile or two where high-clearance 4WD vehicles will be needed.
We will drive up Sunday afternoon, and carcamp (primitive) at the trailhead. Then Monday we will go for the summit. There may be snow up high. I am planning to bring an ice ax and maybe crampons just in case. I would hate to be stymied by steep snow just short of the summit just because I didn't bring an ice ax!
After the hike we will make the drive home, possibly stopping for food along the way.
