DAY HIKE: Lonely Pinon Mountain
Details
Total Distance: 8 miles round trip
Total Elevation Gain: 2500'
Altitude: 2900' - 4987'
Terrain Description: Some trail/dirt road, then rugged off-trail class 1-2
Approximate Hiking Time: 4.5-5 hours
This outing is a hike up Lonely Pinon from the W. end of Alexander Rd. The view from the summit is excellent. We will follow dirt road/trails for the first section, then some rugged off-trail class 2 up and over a ridge skirting the ever-growing gravel quarry to reach the ridge leading to the summit of Lonely Pinon, possibly nabbing a "bonus" peak , pk 4061 on the way. We will likely take a slightly different route on the descent for variety. Expect some class 2 scrambling on steep slopes, with some easy class 3 possible depending on route.
