Hiya!

Fellow hikers,

This post is not for a hike at all; it is meant to be a “community letter” addressed to all of the members of Late Morning Hikers that discusses new aspects of our group. Please read all of the information provided to understand the purpose and intent of this message and how it impacts future Late Morning Hikers events.

LMH is a wonderful, strong, and vibrant group. Our hikes, our happy hours, our traipses with one another are all efforts to make people feel welcome in nature and welcome in the world. We build community. And we want to reinforce our efforts by making sure that all kinds of people know they are welcome in LMH. To this end, we are organizing a series of hikes whose purposes are to build community among different groups within LMH and to foster a greater sense of community in LMH at large.

While these hikes will be oriented around specific communities, these hikes will remain open to everyone at all times regardless of whether you consider yourself part of that community or not. LMH welcomes everyone and will always welcome everyone. Moreover, intersectionality is good and it creates understanding and fraternity among our hikers. These community-building events will not supplant our regular slate of hikes, and the majority of our events will still be the same "standard" kind of hikes you've come to expect from us over the last 11 years.

These community-building events will cover a wide range of groups. You are just as likely to see a queer-community building event as you are to see events for BIPOC communities, or disabled communities, or expat communities, or any number of communities that matter to our hike leaders. Everyone deserves to feel welcome in LMH. These events will contain an FAQ section in which we try to best address any questions about the purpose and execution of these events. However, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the hike leaders for the event (or any leaders, really!) and we will do our best to address them.

We hope that you join these hikes and we hope that you enjoy the community we are continuing to build. Even when our hikes leave you sweaty, exhausted, and in dire need of a cold beer, we hope that every trip leaves you happier, healthier, and more welcome in the world than when you signed up.

Thanks, regards, and see you on the trail,

Evan Lee
