WTH #1: Feeling Bullish! (Easy 5.7 miles, 662', Bull Run Mountains)
Details
Hiya!
Our Whitney Training Hikes (WTH) series continues! While hike #0 had no distance or mileage minimums, this one needs to each at least 2.17 miles and 660’ of elevation gain. And that is the perfect range of figures for our nearest little mountain range, the Bull Run Mountains!
IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to have attended Hike #0 to come on hike #1! You can join any number of the hikes in this series as you see fit :)
This hike is an easy 5.5-mile ramble through the Bull Run Mountains Nature Preserve with 662’ of elevation gain. It covers basically all the trails in the preserve and is the reverse of this loop: ( https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/bull-run-red-yellow-and-green-loop?sh=abzsgd&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality ). We’ll start at 10:00 AM, move at a pace around 1.5-2 mph, and break for lunch midway at about noon. We’ll take plenty of breaks for rest and water, ending the hike at around 3:0 PM. Afterward, we hope you join us at Trouvaille Brewing Company for a beer (http://www.trouvaillebrewingco.com/).
We hope to see you on the trail!
HIKE AND WEATHER INFO:
The Bull Run Mountains Preserve is maintained by the Bull Run Mountains Conservancy. The park has no entry fee, so consider donating to the Conservancy to help maintain trails and public access. The weather is expected to be in the mid-30s to mid-40s, so please dress warmly and in layers. Always over-dress! You can always shed layers if you get too warm, but you can’t don clothes you didn’t bring in the first place!
CARPOOLING:
We encourage those with cars to carpool others to the trailhead - you're the ones who make LMH great!
