White Rocks and Prospect Point Brewing (7.4 miles, 1,066 feet, strenuous)
Details
Join us for an out-and-back hike along the Appalachian Trail, starting at Gathland State Park. We will head north to the White Rock overlook, which has nice views, and then turn around at Lamb’s Knoll. Gathland State Park is home to the world’s only memorial to journalists who died in battle. It also has restrooms and no entrance fee.
Difficulty: Expect some rolling hills and rocky terrain but no super-strenuous elevation. Consider your hiking abilities and reach out to the host if you have questions. We expect to move at a 2.5mph pace, with breaks for water and food. We’ll adjust the pace if it is a very hot day.
Brewery: After the hike we will head to Prospect Point Brewing, a farm brewery near Frederick that has rotating food trucks.
Gear: Please prepare for a warm day and bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of liters of water. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Consider bug repellent. Please bring snacks and a lunch.
Meeting point: Gathland State Park, 900 Arnoldtown Rd, Jefferson Md
