On January 28, 1986, at 11:39am (EST), the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, 73 seconds after lift off, killing all seven crew members. It's hard to believe it has been, 25 years since that terrible day.

The Challenger was the first space mission to take a civilian to space; teacher Christa McAuliffe. It was the most diverse crew in NASA history. There was an Asian-American; Ellison Onizuka, African-American; Ronald McNair, two women; Christa McAuliffe and Judith Resnik-who was also Jewish. Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, and Gregory Jarvis were the other members of the Challenger crew.

On the night of January 28, 1986, President Reagan, was suppose to make his "State of the Union" speech. But instead addressed the shocked nation about the Challenger Diasaster. He would end his speech with this:

"We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of Earth' to 'touch the face of God"

To honor Ellison Onizuka and the other Challenger crew members, and since this is an Asian food meetup, we are going for sushi at Gin Sushi in Pasadena.

Gin Sushi has great sushi at good prices.

It can get crowded at Gin Sushi, so please be on time.
