Spend a weekend immersed in the wild landscapes of the Jura, learning practical bushcraft and survival skills alongside Luca Durante and Mathieu Frommel. Drawing on their expertise in archaeology, indigenous communities and traditional ways of life, survival techniques, and wild animals, they guide you through fire-making, shelter building, and life in nature. A hands-on experience focused on autonomy, simplicity, and connection to the natural world.

    Event description

Meet Luca and Mathieu in Le Brassus on Saturday at 10:30. From there, you’ll have a short shuttle to the start of the walk, and walk together to your camp. This short approach is an introduction to the landscape and atmosphere that will be your home for the weekend.

Once you arrive, you’ll be introduced to the camp and its equipment, giving you time to settle into the woodland environment. The next two days are dedicated to learning essential skills for living in and with nature. On Saturday, you’ll learn how to make fire using friction and build your own shelter for the night, or igloos, if snow conditions allow. You’ll then spend the night in your self-built shelter or igloo, after sharing a warm and convivial dinner around the campfire.

On Sunday morning, after breakfast, you can practice making fire, learn how to make rope, or just enjoy the simple pleasure of unhurried time spent in the woods.

Discover the most beautiful parts of the Dolomites with a group of like-minded, active people. Enjoy a sporty and relaxing time in the mountains! This is a must if you love adventure combined with a fun time.

Hiking through the Dolomites in Italy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A unique piece of nature in Europe with striking rock faces, steep peaks, and white cliffs. Four days of challenging hut-to-hut hiking with a guide. A dip in a beautiful mountain lake. And after the hikes, we'll enjoy the Italian way of life.

Its most famous, special feature in the Rosengarten is the enrosadira that we can see when the sun goes down: a spectacular natural phenomenon where the mountains glow in intense shades of red, pink, and orange at sunset. This is something you will remember for a long time!

This trip is led by Otto van Andel, international mountain leader.

    Event description

    Day 1: Friday 19 June
After travelling towards Italy, you’ll arrive in Pozza di Fassa in the early or late afternoon and be warmly welcomed at the hotel. Take some time to unwind, enjoy the sauna or indoor pool, pick up your lunch for the first hiking day, and stock up on snacks for the days ahead.
In the evening, we’ll gather for a relaxed dinner together, giving everyone a chance to get to know each other and talk through the trek. Afterwards, we’ll do a final check to make sure everyone has the right equipment for the journey. Then it’s an early night, so we’re well rested for the start of our hut-to-hut adventure.
Accommodation: Hotel El Paster (double room)

    Day 2: Saturday 20 June
After a delicious breakfast, we set off on our adventure. To make the first day a little more relaxed, we'll take the chairlift. Even so, we'll reach an altitude of around 2400 m today. We'll pass a mountain hut where we can relax with a cup of coffee. At midday, you can enjoy your picnic with fantastic views.
    Tech. info: 5h walking, 12km, 750m ascent, 750m descent
    Accommodation: Rifugio Gardeccia (double room)

    Day 3: Sunday 21 June
After breakfast, we’ll receive a packed lunch from the hut before setting off towards the heart of the Rosengarten. A challenging and spectacular hike awaits. Passing the Preuss and Vaiolet refuges, we climb steadily up to the Passo Principe refuge. From there, we continue to today’s highest point: the Passo de Antermoia (2770 m). The narrow and steep trail requires good focus as it leads beneath the highest peak of the Rosengarten, the Catinaccia d’Antermoia. From the pass, we descend past the beautiful Lake Antermoia to our overnight hut, Rifugio Antermoia at 2496 m. If you feel brave, you can even take a refreshing (and chilly!) dip in the lake. Tonight, we sleep right in the heart of the Rosengarten.
    Tech. info: 4h walking, 7km, 800m ascent, 300m descen
    Accommodation: Rifugio Antermoia (dorm)

    Day 4: Monday 22 June
After a steep descent, we leave the rugged mountain scenery behind and return to green landscapes. Crossing a beautiful riverbed, we ascend to the Plattkofelhütte. It may be tempting to relax straight away on the terrace, but the highlight of the trip is still to come: an optional summit climb of Plattkofel, nearly 3000 m high, offering unforgettable panoramic views across the Dolomites. We return to the hut via the same route, and now you’ve truly earned that Aperol Spritz!
    Tech. info: 4.5-8h walking, 8–13km, 500–1150m ascent 700–1300m descent
    Accommodation: Plattkofelhütte (dorm)

After a final mountain breakfast, we begin our descent through the forest back into the valley. Once there, we take a short 10-minute bus ride back to Pera di Fassa, or we can walk back to the hotel with those who have time. You’ll have time to collect your luggage, freshen up, grab something to eat, and then begin your journey home, carrying wonderful memories of the Rosengarten trek.
