This is an experimental meetup - let's discuss a nature book together! I've chosen a shorter work to start off with and we can try walking and birdwatching while discussing what we have read. There's plenty of great places to stop and chat on this loop into the bosque from Tingley Beach so expect a nice slow walk.

Aldo Leopold was an extremely influential conservationist and A Sand County Almanac is considered one of the benchmark titles of the ecological movement. It's a very short work and basically every bookstore in town will have a copy. Again, this is my first time trying this type of meetup so let me know what you think.

Book description: The environmental classic that redefined the way we think about the natural world—an urgent call for preservation that’s more timely than ever.

These astonishing portraits of the natural world explore the breathtaking diversity of the unspoiled American landscape—the mountains and the prairies, the deserts and the coastlines. Conjuring up one extraordinary vision after another, Aldo Leopold takes readers with him on the road and through the seasons on a fantastic tour of our priceless natural resources, explaining the destructive effects humankind has had on the land and issuing a bold challenge to protect the world we love.

While we walk and talk, we'll also be looking at the birds in and around Tingley Beach and if maybe we're lucky, we'll spot of porcupine or two. This is a slooow and gentle loop of about 2-3 miles and we'll stopping whenever we see something shiny. Since this is February, if the weather truly turns treacherous, our alternative location will be Lost Cultures Tea Bar.

Meet by that main building where the restrooms are. Dress warm and leave the doggo at home for this one so we can focus on the local wildlife. Binoculars are always a plus!
