Who are Reserve

Reserve.org are a 20+ person team backed by Peter Theil, Coinbase, Sam Altman, Blocktower, Fenbushi, Digital Currency Group and many other well leading funds in the tech and blockchain space. They are pioneering the stable coin category (i.e. cryptocurrencies that remain stable in price) and have been featured on CNBC, written up by Forbes, and even Tweeted about by the likes of Ari Paul and other blockchain luminaries.

Why This Matters

Until now, crypto has been a bubble of hype. If this new wave of cryptocurrencies work, we'll start to see price-stable cryptocurrencies gain real adoption for saving and spending money around the world. Reserve in particular aims to create a digital currency which, through algorithmic stability, enables the millions of people living in countries which experience hyperinflation to have access to a stable store of value and medium of exchange. Currently, due to volatility, cryptocurrency is used as a speculative investment, but not a medium of exchange or a stable store of value, in the way we use the dollar without even thinking about it.

Takeaways will be a much more hands-on understanding of what cutting edge Silicon Valley entrepreneurship and building a new cryptocurrency (in particular, a price-stable cryptocurrency), is actually like.

Nevin is CEO and co-founder of Reserve. Previously, Nevin was the CTO of a news website, CIO of a medical research startup, and co-founder of a startup incubator. He spends his spare time worrying about the consequences of artificial intelligence.

Matt Elder
CTO,Reserve
Matt is CTO and co-founder of Reserve. Previously he was an engineer for Google, Quixey, and the Linux Standard Base (IBM). His graduate research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was in program analysis.
