We never really forget the grown-ups in our lives. Looking back to the golden years of his childhood, prolific playwright and film director Marcel Pagnol (of "The Marseilles Trilogy" fame) recounts the summer he spent in Provence with his close-knit family. The idyllic world of sweeping hillsides and singing cicadas is a source of endless enchantment for the young Marcel, who idolizes his father Joseph and wants nothing more than to join him in the adult sport of hunting. Accompanied by his little brother Paul, his avuncular Tonton Jules, and his loving mother Augustine, Marcel will pass an unforgettable summer under the provincial noonday sun - a light that is only eclipsed by the radiant pride (and high standards!) Marcel has for his dad.
Lush, nostalgic, and full of heart, La Gloire de mon père lovingly captures the grandeur (and the gaffes) of childhood, filtered through the author's fond reminiscences of his father. Let's talk about it!
