## The French Book Club 📚🇫🇷
Love reading and want to discover French literature while improving your French?
Welcome to The French Book Club, an online community of passionate readers and French learners from around the world.
Over the years, we’ve already read and discussed dozens of books together, and our international community of book lovers keeps growing. From contemporary novels and literary bestsellers to classics and non-fiction, we love discovering French and Francophone literature — and, above all, talking about it together.
We’ve read authors such as Albert Camus, Annie Ernaux, Romain Gary, Leïla Slimani, George Sand, Émile Zola, Colette, Gaël Faye and many more.
Our book clubs take place online in very small groups (2–6 readers) and are guided by a qualified and experienced French teacher.
We read each book progressively over several weeks and meet once a week for a 1-hour discussion in French. We talk about the characters, themes and writing, but also the historical and cultural context — and, of course, share our own reactions, interpretations and opinions.

- During the session: we make sure you understand the story, you learn about the author and his time, and above all you speak! Debates, role-plays, character investigations…
- After the session: finish the exercises and check your answers with the answer key.

- the A2 adapted text of the chapters,
- key vocabulary (simple French definitions + English translations),
- comprehension, vocabulary and grammar exercises,
- the answer key.

For this French Book Club, we’ll be reading Les Années by Annie Ernaux, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature.
Published in 2008, Les Années is one of Ernaux’s major works: a fascinating collective autobiography that moves from post-war France to the beginning of the 21st century.
Through personal memories, photographs, historical events and everyday life, Ernaux tells not only the story of one woman, but also the story of a changing France — its lifestyles, attitudes, consumer habits, relationship with work and the evolving place of women in society.### 📖 How does the Book Club work?
Each week, we’ll read approximately 45–50 pages at home and meet online for a 1-hour guided discussion entirely in French. You’ll also receive resources to help with vocabulary and explore the cultural and historical context of the book.
Together, we’ll discuss the text, share our interpretations and opinions, and explore some of its central themes: memory, time, identity, social change and the relationship between individual and collective history.
The group is guided by an experienced and qualified French teacher, so you’ll be developing your French while enjoying a genuine literary discussion with other readers.
This Book Club is recommended for B2–C2 learners who want to expand their vocabulary, practise discussing complex ideas and discover one of the most important voices in contemporary French literature.📚 Ready to read with us?
