## The French Book Club 📚🇫🇷
Love reading and want to discover French literature while improving your French?
Welcome to The French Book Club, an online community of passionate readers and French learners from around the world.
Over the years, we’ve already read and discussed dozens of books together, and our international community of book lovers keeps growing. From contemporary novels and literary bestsellers to classics and non-fiction, we love discovering French and Francophone literature — and, above all, talking about it together.
We’ve read authors such as Albert Camus, Annie Ernaux, Romain Gary, Leïla Slimani, George Sand, Émile Zola, Colette, Gaël Faye and many more.
Our book clubs take place online in very small groups (2–6 readers) and are guided by a qualified and experienced French teacher.
We read each book progressively over several weeks and meet once a week for a 1-hour discussion in French. We talk about the characters, themes and writing, but also the historical and cultural context — and, of course, share our own reactions, interpretations and opinions.

Discover Gavroche and follow the final part of the story through a text adapted for A2 learners, with support to help you understand the novel and talk about it in French.New to the Book Club? You’re welcome to join! We’ve already read Parts 1 and 2 together, but I’ll provide a summary so you can catch up and follow Part 3 with confidence. You don’t need to have attended the previous sessions!

- After the session: finish the exercises and check your answers with the answer key.

For this French Book Club, we’ll be reading Nous aussi by Anne Godard, winner of the Prix Décembre 2026.
The novel takes us inside a privileged Parisian family, where children and cousins grow up together, sharing homes, holidays and traditions. Belonging to the family seems natural and reassuring — but leaves little room for an individual voice.
Behind this apparent harmony, secrets and unspoken violence gradually emerge. Through the distinctive use of the French pronoun “on”, Anne Godard explores family bonds, collective silence and the difficulty of saying “je”.📖 How does the Book Club work?
Each week, you’ll read an assigned section at home before joining a 1-hour guided discussion entirely in French. You’ll also receive resources to help with vocabulary and explore the novel’s themes and writing style.
Together, we’ll discuss the text, share our interpretations and explore questions such as:- How does our family shape our identity?
- When does belonging become a constraint?
- How do silence and secrets pass from one generation to the next?
- How does the narrative voice influence our experience as readers?
The group is guided by an experienced and qualified French teacher, so you’ll develop your French while enjoying a thoughtful literary discussion with other readers.
This Book Club is recommended for B2–C2 learners who want to expand their vocabulary, practise expressing nuanced ideas and discover contemporary French literature.
