IN-PERSON: Talk night: Anne Dhir and Gary Fleming

Details
NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE!
For our June event, we'll be having a night of talks and conversation. We have two speakers joining! Anne will be talking about planning to end the services we build, and Gary will be talking about how to improve our estimates by embracing complexity.
---
Anne Dhir: "The circle of life: lessons learned from killing services"
The agile focus is on creating services, but it needs to pay equal attention to decommissioning them. Thinking about how we end services, products or features will help us make them more effective, efficient, sustainable, scalable and adaptable – in a word: agile.
Destroying services is inherent to the creation process. The creation and decommissioning of services go together, but we might not recognise this.
Services never really die, and we need to deal with the ghosts. Service elements remain and must continue to be provided legally, effectively, and sustainably. The memory of dead services lingers and affects future services.

Gary Fleming: "Estimates and Complexity: A Tale In 42 and a Half Minutes" (WiP)
This tale will last forty two and a half minutes.
How confident are you that this talk will last this long? What happens if we go over, or under? Are the reasons for it varying from that time fixed by external factors or complexities?
Most estimation goes badly wrong because it focusses on estimating the wrong things at the wrong times, without considering precision, complexity, and the reasons for the estimate in the first place.
We're going to tell you all about what makes work predictable, and what makes it more difficult to understand. We'll help you ask the right questions in each situation so that you're as prepared as you can be.
If you want to go beyond simple time-based estimation, like story points, we've got a tale to tell you that'll change how you work forever... and it's only forty two and a half minutes long.

WHEN: Wednesday 14th June, 6pm doors for 6.15pm start.
