Lean Outsourcing

In this time of global networking, we are seeing startups which have some form of a distributed team or outsourcing. Some companies like Github are fundamentally built around the idea of a distributed team. In this session, we will explore some of the issues around distributed teams and how that impacts the Lean Startup.

David Tyler and Lyle Hazle will discuss their experiences with distributed teams.

After going through Y Combinator in the summer, he left to move back to the Seattle area. He now works at Cloudant, a Boston, Seattle, Bristol, Colorado, Seoul, and Nebraska-based company providing a distributed database as a service. He focuses on helping users with capacity planning and data modeling, as well as eating too many burritos at his desk.

Some questions he wants to make sure get asked:

How do lean startup processes such as scrum meetings, sprint planning, etc. translate into an organization where engineers are oftentimes unable to communicate in real-time? In what ways does having a distributed team benefit a lean startup?

He has a talent for finding innovative solutions for complex architecture and software development problems.
