The traditional way most people are taught to save for retirement is to contribute to a 401k or IRA with their companies retirement plan and invest in mutual funds.

Many people do not realize this is one of the WORST ways to build wealth.
In most mutual funds 65%+ of the gains are taken in the form of hidden broker fees making trades within the mutual fund.

Not only that but the brokers make money off of your retirement accounts when your portfolio is performing well but also when it is going down in value since its based on the trades they make.

There is no incentive for performance. I personally never invest in a deal unless there is a preferred return involved, meaning investors make a specific return first before the operators/brokers get paid on the deal.

Without this there is moral hazard where there is no incentive for the operator to perform.

In addition, most mutual funds use the “check the risk” box type of investing. When you sign up for these mutual funds many do the full allocation for you based on the box you check with regard to risk.

That is NOT an investment strategy! That is a massive gamble and will never get you to financial freedom. That is exactly why 90% of retires over the age of 65 are not able to retire or live off of their investments and are dependent upon others to live as they age.

It’s extremely unfortunate and the entire system is built this way. If you look at Forbes, Money Magazine or 90% of all other forms of education out there its all built to make you think that investing with these large brokerage houses are the ONLY way to go.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Most investors do not realize you can take 100% control over your own future and investments.

You can self-direct your 401k, IRA, HAS or any other retirement account into the investments you choose.

You can invest in real estate, stock, gold, silver, debt instruments and much more!

It’s actually pretty simple to do this once you have the understanding of the process, the rules you have to abide by and how to do the right due diligence on your investments.

Without the due diligence you will lose your money, or at best be in the same type of investments with dis-incentives in place.

Working with the right operators or understanding the investments you operate directly inside your 401k or IRA can be key to long term success.
For example:
 - My 401k did a loan to a flipper at a 14% interest rate for $500k. My loan was at 65% of the value of the property (my collateral) to give my 401k ample protection.
 - Then my 401k sold 90% of the loan ($450k) to another investor at 8% interest.
 - So my 401k was bringing in $70k a year ($500k x 14%) but it was only paying out $36k ($450k x 8%) which means my 401k was making $34k a year on the $50k invested which is a 68% return on investment!

This shows you the power of what you can do once you learn some of these strategies!
