Learn Pickleball PDX

Learn pickleball now! We will cover etiquette and safety, shots and strategy, rules and scoring, and then we'll play real games to integrate our new skills. By the end of the session, you'll have a foundation of knowledge to play pickleball anywhere! All equipment is provided, but bring your own paddle if you have one. Session limited to eight confirmed players.

This class is the beginning of your pickleball journey that could lead to years of fun, exercise, and making new friends. This clinic is suitable for brand new players, and those who have taken a beginner class already are welcome to repeat the session.

The clinic is taught by Bob Wolfe, 4.0 player and Level 1 Certified Instructor through the International Pickleball Teaching Professionals Association. Waiver is required prior to play, 18+ only please. Clinic is located at the INDOOR courts at Hillside Community Center close to downtown Portland. Please make sure to go to Hillside Community Center on NW Culpepper Terrace -- some map apps can send you other places.

Price is $29 per person -- much less than the 'going rate' around Portland / SW Washington. Payment is via Venmo to

Your reservation is not confirmed until payment is received. No refunds are allowed starting 24 hours before an event. If you are confirmed but fail to attend the event, you will have one additional opportunity to attend a future event, if available, using the original payment. After two no-shows, you must submit a new payment for any new events.

BALL MACHINE SESSIONS!
I’m pleased to announce that ball machine sessions will now be available weekly. Here’s how it is going to work.

1. $35 per hour for one or two hours with 1-2 people.
2. We can set up the machine to feed you balls to work on any shot – drives, dinks, forehand or backhand, volleys, topspin or sidespin, even overheads. Ball speed can vary from an easy dink to a 60 MPH serve that is hard to hit!
3. Machine is able to send balls to two players at the same time
4. Work on up to two different shots per hour. Hit unlimited balls during your session.
5. I’ll be there for coaching as desired.

There is nothing like hitting 500 repetitions of the same shot to dial in your muscle memory. I’ve been working on a cross-court, backhand, bottom-spin drop shot and after about 750 reps, I’m getting about 70% of my shots into the corner of the kitchen as desired! Another 750 reps and I’ll start working it into my game play. If you want to perfect a particular shot, this is the session for you! For many of you, this is a great opportunity to finally nail that backhand, dial in top spin forehand, or finally get comfortable hitting volleys at the net.

Ball Machine Schedule
Thursdays from 11 am – 1 pm at Hillside Community Center
Every other Sunday from Noon – 2 pm starting Sunday, April 21th at Hillside Community Center.

If you've taken a beginner pickleball class, it's time to start playing more pickleball! Join other newer players on the court to play Pickleball with coaching and refereeing from instructor Robert Wolfe. We will review the rules and basic strategy as needed, and learn some new tactics, too, all with players at the same level. Advance your skills, or tune-up if you've been away from the game for a while.

Minimum of three players to run the session (instructor will play as needed), All equipment is provided but bring your own paddle if you have one.

Cost is $14 per player for a 2-hour session, payable in advance via Venmo to: @Robert-Wolfe-28
