If you're building a WordPress Block Theme for the WordPress Theme Repository or selling on a theme marketplace, it's a good idea to consider Internationalisation. Internationalisation in a block theme means you enable the WordPress Internationalisation functions so that your theme can be translated into various languages around the world.

In this session, we will take a brief look at what Internationalisation (or i18n) in themes means, as well as cover the common Internationalisation functions available in WordPress, and how to use them. We'll then create a blank block theme, and then take a look at the strings that we might need to make translation ready, as well as how to achieve this.

If you want to code along with me, you will need the following:

1. Access to a local WordPress install.

Popular options for local installs are:

2. A text editor to edit WordPress files:

Audience: Developers
Level: Intermediate
Where: Zoom (link will be visible after RSVP)

This session is being held at an EU/Africa/US Eastern friendly time. If you cannot get to the live session, keep an eye out for the recording we’ll be publishing on wordpress.tv and learn.wordpress.org after the session is completed :-)

See you soon!
