Welcome to A Beginner's Guide to Setting Up a Website: Content Planning!
If you've been thinking about setting up a website--be it for business, crafting, or perhaps you'd like to start a blog about something you are passionate about, this workshop is for you!
Separated into two parts, this guide will help you determine the content you need to get started with a simple website of your own, then get you started setting up a free practice website of your won.
Part One: Content Planning (This session!)
If you're like many writers, you may be wondering what should even go on your website to begin with. This session aims to help you develop targeted and effective content for your Home page, About page,
- What makes one website stand out from another?
- What tips and tricks will help search engines find and list your website as soon as possible?
- How do you make your content as accessible as possible so that you can reach your widest audience?
Join us in this interactive writing workshop to get started exploring the following:
- Start with the end in mind: Define your website's mission and goals.
- Calls to action! Decide how you want your viewers to interact with your website. How will you know you're reaching your audience?
- Build your credibility: How will you establish trust with your website audience?
- Keyword Research: Plan your content through keywords, using search engines to assist you.
- Free photo search: Find and name photos correctly so that your website stands out immediately.
- Consider colors and fonts that will resonate with your audience and set you up for success.
This session is planned to take one hour, but we've added a little extra at the end in case we need a little more space for planning.
Part two will take what we've learned in this session and teach you how to apply it to a website--you will set up a WordPress website on a local website (one not connected to the internet) and teach you how to set up your header, footer, colors, pages, and posts on a blog page (if you'd like!) and everything in between.
