Welcome to A Beginner's Guide to Setting Up a Website: Part 2 - Website Design!

If you've been thinking about setting up a website--be it for business, crafting, or perhaps you'd like to start a blog about something you are passionate about, this workshop is for you!

Separated into two parts, this guide will help you determine the content you need to get started, then help you practice get started setting up a website of your very own.

Part One Content -- During the first session on this topic, we planned our content with our audiences in mind, decided on calls to action, collected key words and photos, and thought about how best to present our content in terms of color and fonts.

What if I missed Part One? If you did not attend Part One, that's okay! You are welcome to view the recording later, or simply show up with some ideas in mind.

Part Two: Website Design is an interactive session that will cover...

  • The set up of a free local WordPress testing environment (so you can practice on your own computer!)
  • Block theme selection
  • Designing the look and feel of your website
  • Globally styling your website with colors of your choosing
  • Using Create Block Theme to select and manage your website's fonts
  • WordPress website setup:
  • Create your Home Page, About Page, Contact Page and (optional) Blog Page
  • Headers, footers, and everything in between!
  • The difference between the page editor and site editor, including templates and template parts in the site editor
  • Using patterns to design your website
  • Using images effectively for search engine optimization

We expect this session to take at least 1.5 hours, though we've added an extra half hour into this session just in case. We look forward to seeing you there!
