Speaker Workshop for Indian Women in the WordPress Community Part 1

This is a 2-day workshop for women in India (other countries are welcome to join us, too) who are thinking about speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp.

When we say women, we include anyone who identifies as a woman some or all of the time.

Does the thought of speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp intrigue you? The focus of this hands-on, online workshop will be to generate WordPress-related topics for a talk, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking in a safe space. At the end of the workshop you will have a few ideas for talks, an outline on one topic, a title, a pitch/proposal for applying to events, and a chance to practice speaking.

***You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

This workshop is for you if:

• You identify as a woman some or all of the time
• You have thought about speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp but haven’t been able to think of a topic
• You think you don't know anything worth speaking about
• You would like to feel more confident about being on stage

This workshop will be split into two 2.5-hour sessions, Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1: Saturday, September 23, 2023 (9:30am-12:00pm IST):

• Why speak at WordPress Meetup or WordCamps?
• Dispelling some myths about speakers/speaking
• Coming up with topics and choosing one
• Writing a meetup description or conference pitch
• Practice speaking in front of a group

Part 2: Sunday, September 24, 2023 (9:30am-12:00pm IST):
(Prerequisite: Part 1 on September 23, 2023)

• Coming up with a great title
• Writing the outline
• Becoming a better speaker tips
• Practice giving a short talk

This will be held on Zoom. Everyone will have the chance to participate if they wish in the large group and in small breakout groups of 4-5 each.

Please try to arrive 5 minutes early so that we can start on time.
