Does it feel as though time is speeding along? Especially these summer days – the 4th of July has come and gone already! It’s that way when I think about my life in general. Maybe you too? It feels like a blink of an eye that I was starting my career and here I am now, retired (loving it) but still, I sit in amazement of how quickly time passes.

In retirement, fewer demands on our time means we’ve got more time, right? But we also realize that we are aging and there is, at least statistically, less time ahead of us than the time we have lived to this point. For me, it is a simultaneous feeling of time abundance and time scarcity.

The paradox of time is the idea that time feels like two opposite things at once. The paradox comes from how differently we experience time compared to how physics describes it. A minute is always 60 seconds, but a minute can feel like an hour, and a decade can feel like a week. Both are true at the same time.

Join us for a conversation about how you are experiencing time in retirement. Do you feel the paradox? Science tells us that we can slow our perception of time by changing how our brain processes the moments that pass. What approaches have you discovered that help you accept the fleeting nature of time and still savor the moments that matter?

As always, we look forward to engaging discussion and creating community as we learn from each other, evolve, and grow in this chapter of our lives. If you are able, join us for a social hour after our discussion at a local restaurant.
