BIP 141: Segregated Witness (Consensus Layer)

Segwit was one of the most anticipated and controversial feature in Bitcoin. It was proposed in December 2015 and activated on the August 24, 2017.

The motivations behind Segwit were to solve the transaction malleability issue and to improve scalability on chain, as well as off chain by enable Lightning Network.

In this Study Group we'll read BIP 141 and try to learn some implementation details and related BIPs.

These Bitcoin Improvement Proposals require some degree of understanding of bitcoin fundamentals and cryptography but we'll do our best to research and explain each step while going down into the rabbit hole.
