Humayun’s tomb earned this prestigious tag in 1993. Recently I visited this site after restoration and it’s sheer beauty and charm amazed me. The restoration work started in 2007 and completed last year i.e. 2013 and inaugurated by then prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. As soon as you enter the complex, you will observe the impressive tomb of Isha Khan on the left side. It is octagonal tomb built in 1547, almost 20 years before the construction of Humayun’s tomb. Isha Khan was a noble in the court of Sher Shah Sur. Main tomb looks impressive after blue tiles works and it really compliment s the main building and its dome. Humayun’s was built by his widow Haji Begum. The construction started in 1565 and completed in 1572. The height of this building is 47 meter. This beautiful octagonal tomb situated at the center of 30 acre lawn which is very well maintained with impressive water channel. Now there is a superb gallery which gives superb information about restoration work and may leave you mesmerized with its some very old photographs of Humayun’s tomb. So what are you waiting for………..reserve 20th July to explore the exquisite monument after superb restorations.
