Our final event in the Basics series will cover the branch of Philosophy that deals with the ideal system of organising society, i.e. politics. According to Ayn Rand, the ideal form of government is pure, laissez-faire capitalism. In such a system government, like individuals, does not have the right to initiate the use of force, but has a monopoly on the retaliatory use of force.
Rand’s main essays on this topic, which are now being taught as part of the A-Level politics curriculum, are Man’s Rights and The Nature of Government. We will be handing out copies of these essays in this and preceding Meetups, and they are also available to read online for free:
