Hebden, Meugher and Blea Gill

Details
You are most welcome to join us on this circuit which will take us to one of the lesser known Yorkshire Dales summit, set amid some fine upland scenery. The walk commences in the village of Hebden which can be reached by following the B6265 from Grassington for about 2 miles. On reaching the village turn right onto Hebden Main Street, where on-street parking is available. We plan to start walking at 9.45am, so please allow sufficient time for travelling and changing into boots, etc, and come appropriately attired and equipped for the conditions expected. Should you require transport, please message John or James, who will organise for you to be picked up on the day.
- From the village, our route follows the Hebden Beck valley upstream to Yarnbury and Grassington Moor, an area with plenty of remnants of former lead mining works. We then skirt round the Moor into Mossdale, where we will follow the Nidderdale track passing Mossdale Caverns. On reaching open moorland we will make our way to the conical-shaped summit of Meugher, which at 1887 feet is the high point of the walk, with fine views over Wharfedale and its location gives a genuine sense of remoteness. From here we descend to Blea Gill and follow this downstream to pick up the bridleway over Hebden Moor overlooking Grimwith Reservoir to the left, before descending to Hebden Beck and our starting point.
The route is about 15 miles in length, with some 1700 feet of ascent, and is fairly strenuous. For the majority of the walk the going is good, but a traverse of Meugher can be boggy and tedious, but should be considerably less so with the recent warm spell and lack of rain. We expect to finish before 5.30pm.
This is a Leeds CHA walk, and there is no charge to attend the first three walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club. for further details follow the link on this website.
