NORTH AND WEST OF WETHERBY (11 to 12 miles)

Details
You are most welcome to join us on this circular walk in the pleasant undulating countryside north of the Wharfe which visits the attractive villages of Spofforth, Sicklinghall and Linton. The route is about 11 to 12 miles in length with a few small ascents, and is a Leeds CHA Joint A/B walk taken at a steady pace. We expect to finish between 4.00 and 4.30pm.
Timed to meet the 9.05 No. X99 Wetherby bus from Leeds City Square for those who do not have transport, we will start walking from Wetherby Bus Station at 9.50. After a short walk to leave the town centre we pick up a footpath leading to the former railway track (now a cycle route) into the countryside where paths and minor roads take us to Kirk Deighton and Peasbury Hill before following Crimple Beck to Spofforth for a lunch stop by the ruins of the castle, dating from the 13th century as a Manor House and the residence of the Percy family. Not much remains but there will be time to have a look at the ruins before we move on.
From Spofforth we head south to the pleasant village of Sicklinghall, shortly after which we join the Ebor Way which we follow via Lime Kiln Wood to Linton. The final section of the walk takes us to the banks of the River Wharfe and back to the centre of Wetherby.
This is a Leeds CHA walk, and there is no charge to attend the first three walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club.
