Hiking in the Hambleton Hills
Details
You are most welcome to join us on this circuit in the North York Moors National Park, with fine upland vistas on the western edges of the Park contrasting with the secluded valley scenery of Ryedale. The walk commences in the village of Boltby, which can be reached from the A170 at Thirsk, following signs to Felixkirk and Boltby. On reaching the village, park near the Church, where on-street parking is available (Grid Ref SE491866). We plan to start walking at 9.45am, so please allow sufficient time for travelling and changing into boots, etc, and come appropriately attired and equipped for the conditions expected. Should you require transport, please message John or James, who will organise for you to be picked up on the day.
Leaving Boltby, our route climbs steadily up though Boltby Forest and via Windygill Ridge to meet the Cleveland Way above Kepwick. Here, weather permitting we should have some splendid views westward to the Yorkshire Dales. We follow the Way for a short stretch before descending into Thorodale to reach Arden Hall and the River Rye. The route continues in a southerly direction amid picturesque scenery to Murton Grange and into Sledhill Gill. The final section of the walk takes us westward back to the Cleveland Way at Boltby Scar, before descending back to Boltby.
We expect to finish between 4.30 and 5.00pm.
This is a Leeds CHA 'A' walk and will be moderately strenuous, being around 14 to 15 miles long with some 1750 feet of ascent, on good tracks throughout.
There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club. for further details follow the link on this website.
