Stoodley Pike and Heptonstall
Details
Avoid the Christmas shopping and join us for a winter walk from Hebden Bridge in the scenic Calderdale valley. The walk commences from the Railway Station, and is timed to meet the 9.12am train from Leeds City Station for those who do not have transport. For those travelling by car, there is parking available at the station or in nearby car parks within the town itself. We plan to start walking from the Station at 10.00am, so allow sufficient time for travelling and changing into boots, etc, and come suitably attired for the conditions expected.
The Route
From the Station, our route climbs out of the valley as we head for the prominent monument on Stoodley Pike, constructed as a memorial following the end of the Napoleonic Wars. We maintain the height for a while before descending to the outskirts of Todmorden in the Calder Valley and then climb out of the valley on its northern side to intercept the Calderdale Way, which we will follow to Colden Water. If time permits, we will then visit Heptonstall village before descending to our starting point.
This is a Leeds CHA 'A' walk and will be fairly strenuous, being around 12 to 13 miles long with some 1800 feet of ascent, on good tracks throughout. We expect to finish no later than 4.00pm, with the intention of rounding off the day with a meal in Hebden Bridge (this is optional) before heading home.
There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club. for further details follow the link on this website.
