Yorke's Folly and Brimham Rocks
Details
Come join our group on this interesting and varied walk in scenic countryside commencing from the village of Dacre Banks in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dacre Banks is reached by following the B6165 road to Pateley Bridge as far as Summerbridge and turning left onto the B6451 to reach the village in about 0.3 miles. Parking is available in the small car park to the side of the Royal Oak PH. The village can also be reached by following the B6451 from Otley/Pool in Wharfedale. We plan to start walking at 9.45am, so allow sufficient time for travelling and changing into boots, etc, and come suitably attired for the conditions expected. If you require transport do not hesitate to message John or James, who will arrange for you to be picked up on the day.
The Route
From the car park, our route climbs out of the valley following the Nidderdale Way in a westerly direction to arrive at High Crag Ridge, the high point of the day. We continue on the Way for a while, passing Yorke's Folly and then descend to Pateley Bridge via Fishpond Wood. After passing through the town, we will reach the Panorama Walk and also pick up the Nidderdale Way again to follow this for a few miles before leaving to climb up to Brimham Rocks to view the amazing natural rock formations. From here we descend gradually to Summerbridge and back to our starting point.
This is a Leeds CHA 'A' walk and will be fairly strenuous, being around 12 miles long with some 1600 feet of ascent, on good tracks throughout. We expect to finish before 4.30pm.
There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club. for further details follow the link on this website.
