Exploring Malham & Kilnsey Moors and Gordale Scar
Details
An interesting and varied walk exploring the moors between Kilnsey and Malham with a visit to the spectacular Goredale Scar
The walk commences from the site of a disused quarry on Boss Moor above Winterburn Reservoir - Grid ref. SD 95533 61942 (don't use what 3 words !!)
We will leave at 9.45 so please arrive in plenty of time to park and put on suitable clothing and boots before the departure time. Ensure that you take with you appropriate equipment and refreshment for a day's winter walking.
We start off heading north across Boss Moor and cross Threshfield Moor before coming on to Malham Moor where we skirt Green Haw Hill and then descend to join Mastiles Lane which runs across Kilnsey Moor to Malham Tarn. After exploring the inevitable Trig point at our highest point, we continue on down towards Malham but leave the lane to cross fields down to Lee Gate farm. Here we follow a good track which leads us to the road down to Goredale Scar. With any luck there may a snack bar just before - always popular. This is where we go off to visit the Scar and waterfall.
On returning to the road we follow it back up the hill and join a track which takes us up to Weets Top. After admiring the view we then descend over fields to Park House and Know Bank farms to return up the lane to the cars.
This is a Leeds CHA 'A' walk and so it is moderately strenuous being around 13 miles with a combined ascent of around 2100ft. A most of the walk is on well defined tracks but because of recent weather, expect some sections to be quite wet. We expect to be back between 4.30 and 5pm
There is no charge to attend the first three CHA walks, but to attend further walks we request that you join our club for an annual membership fee of only £6.00. This will give you access to an unlimited number of walks, social events, coach trips, and weekends away, in line with our parent club Leeds CHA Rambling & Social Club. for further details follow the link on this website.
