Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-36 (NKJV) “I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me”. Also, in Matthew 26:11 He added “For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always”.

The causes of homelessness for someone may be loss of relationships, financial downturn or addictions among other things, but at the root of it is the same brokenness that all humanity are familiar with.

When we show kindness to people in different situations than we are in, Jesus likened this to doing it to Him.

Difficulty arises when we face questions about safety, appropriateness, frequency, etc.

However we give, generosity and cheerfulness are important parts - "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).
