Pennine Journey
Details
Details:
Meet: Todmorden Railway Station, at the far end of the car park
Post Code: OL14 7AA
Time: 09.45 Hrs for a 10.00 Hrs Start
From the station we climb up through a steep sided wood before picking up a minor road, this leads to a rocky track that takes us to the top of Todmorden Moor and through the Wind Farm. We pick up a bridleway which is a mixture of rocky track and grass, with a couple of steep sided gullies and on to Deerplay Moor, before picking up a good track which is the Pennine Bridleway, we more or less stick with track for the rest of the ride, We cross the road at the village of Lumb, before picking up a minor road at Waterfoot, we have about a mile of quite back streets on a downward slope before passing over the River Irwell, this minor road soon leads to a rocky track with a long climb to the top of Tottington High Moor.
We stay on this high moorland track for a few miles passing through some old disused quarries eventually the track becomes a old cobbled access road on its long steady descent.
We turn of this track and pass through some farmland and wooded area before going through the edge of Whitworth then back on to the open moorland below Brown Wardle Hill then on to Watergrove Reservoir this track eventually takes us to Calderbrook we descend down to the Rochdale Canal and back to Todmorden.
There is no cafe stop on this ride so please bring your own lunch. Thanks.
