Abstract:
I work on a lot of different software projects, professionally and for fun, and I often find myself working on several different things at the same time. To do this, I've developed a process for working with coding agents, particularly Claude Code, which allows me to switch context rapidly and do things I don't 100% know how to do myself.
In this talk I'll share the techniques I've learned, developed and refined that help me get solid, usable code that I can put into production with confidence. I'll show you how to write a detailed requirements document that an agent can work from; how to work through those requirements step by step in collaboration with your LLM; how to maintain state between sessions (which is helpful for me as well as Claude); and how to keep up with what it's doing so you can take responsibility for the solution long after its context window has closed forever.
I'll also share some thoughts about where junior developers fit into this new way of working, and how important it is that humans continue to be the primary agents in software engineering.

Hi, I’m Rendle.

I build software of all kinds: back-end, front-end, desktop, mobile, games, CLI tools, whatever. I mostly use C# and .NET but I can do stuff in JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust, Zig, Kotlin, Python… pretty much anything. I like to talk about building software, sometimes seriously, but often more weird and fun. I do consulting and teach workshops on things like improving application performance, migrating from the old .NET Framework to modern .NET, and designing and creating APIs with JSON or gRPC. I’ve been a stand-up comic, a television writer, a Microsoft MVP, a Docker Captain, and a bunch of other things, and I’m currently a podcaster, a writer, and the bass player in the world’s premier tech parody band, The Linebreakers.

Abstract:

Observability is not an afterthought in AI systems. It is how you build them.

Using a real multi-agent financial compliance system as the case study, I walk through what observability actually looks like inside a production AI pipeline: five specialized agents handling OFAC sanctions screening, AML detection, and regulatory rules enforcement, with every agent decision captured in an immutable Langfuse audit trail showing token usage, latency, cost, and data lineage in real time.

The talk covers three architecturally distinct ways to build the same system: raw SDK with custom parallel orchestration using asyncio, the OpenAI Agents SDK for rapid prototyping, and MCP (Model Context Protocol) for exposing tools across team and organisational boundaries. Each trades differently, and knowing which to reach for is the real engineering skill.

Attendees will leave with a clear mental model for when multi-agent architecture is genuinely necessary (not just fashionable), why observability is the feedback loop that compresses build-debug-ship cycles, and how Azure OpenAI changes the calculus when data sovereignty and auditability are non-negotiable in regulated industries.

Samuel Jaja is a Generative AI Engineer at Capgemini UK. He founded PyData Hull, the youngest NumFOCUS chapter in Yorkshire, holds an MSc in AI and Data Science with Distinction from the University of Hull, and is the founder of Atlasync AI Ltd. He spoke at DDD North 2026 and builds production AI systems across regulated industries, including finance, energy, and construction.

Abstract:

Publish/subscribe is often the first pattern teams adopt when moving toward asynchronous, message-based architectures. It’s a powerful way to decouple services and enable extensibility—but on its own, pub/sub doesn’t solve many of the problems that show up in real distributed systems, such as data loss, broken workflows, or systems that struggle under load.

In this session, we’ll go beyond basic pub/sub to explore a set of proven messaging patterns used in production. We’ll look at how the Outbox pattern prevents message loss during failures, how sagas coordinate long-running workflows without distributed transactions, how scatter-gather accelerates work through parallelism, and how competing consumers enable elastic throughput when demand spikes. Along the way, we’ll also examine essential operational safeguards such as retries, dead-letter queues, back pressure, and idempotency.

By the end of the talk, you’ll understand when and how to apply these patterns to build systems that are not just decoupled, but resilient, scalable, and designed to handle failure gracefully from day one.
