Bureaucracy runs through every part of modern life — from the forms we fill out to the corporate policies we never agreed to. Once, the left fiercely attacked bureaucratic power, seeing it as a tool of both the state and corporations to control ordinary people. Today, that critique has all but vanished from mainstream politics.
In this discussion, we’ll explore this topic of bureaucracy, using as a starting point this Graeber's interview about his book The Utopia of Rules. Here's a quote to get a taste:
