LCC Poetry Workshop
Details
Welcome to the inaugural poetry workshop organised by Left Culture Club. Join us to write and perhaps even share our poetry with others in a joint writing experience.
Session Plan
For this session, those joining us are invited to bring in miscellaneous objects of their choosing (such as a postcard, a rock, a crocheted piece, etc.) to observe and attend to with all their senses, as a point of departure into writing poems concerning those senses. These objects may also be exchanged or shared among others, if they speak to someone else in any way.
Our host Talha will introduce and explain three different kinds of poetic forms/structures for people to choose from as they venture into their writing. These will be kept short, and there is no expectation to strictly follow every rule of the form (we may even encourage a bit of playfulness with stresses and rhymes).
In the end, we may share the poems we have written and have a final discussion about how everyone felt while writing them: whether they connected with the form and structure in any particular way, and what they might like to add or change in the poem that they will take home with them.
This is a great opportunity to make friends who share an interest in poetry, or simply to give yourself a bit of time where you’re forced to sit down and write. You do not need to have any experience in writing poetry to come along, but we are also very happy to have experienced poets join us, whether that is to offer advice, or to see how they fare in a new poetic form they might not be entirely familiar with.
Don‘t forget to bring objects that you find interesting or that speak to you!
