LCC Reading: Endnotes 4 'Unity In Seperation'
Details
As protests over the cost of living, housing, education and healthcare erupt across the world, the material concerns that historically confronted the then nascent workers movement have been taken up by diverse coalition, in particular students, who have been at the forefront of struggles from Jakarta to Paris.
While the supply side shocks that have been consistently driving up inflation, weren't yet visible in 2015 when Endnotes #4 was written, the authors still met a similar set of contradictions as sluggish GDP growth met high levels of government debt, rising interest rates and increasing productivity. The ongoing production of surplus populations and surplus capital due to this confluence of factors has so far left the existing social order intact but fraying and alongside the perspectives of the historical workers movement.
In this reading group we'll be re-examining past and present of the historical subject of revolutionary praxis, the industrial worker, the attempts made to unify workers as a social subject, the collective worker, the emergence of the separated society and the possibilities of the emergence of new social forces capable of reckoning with the continuing destabilization and dislocation of late capitalist society.
