About us
Did you play a horn in band when you were in high school? Does that feel like a lifetime ago? Is that horn (or one like it) gathering dust somewhere in your home? Or maybe you are already a student in jazz band at school but you are hoping to explore more traditional swing dance music instead of modern styles/arrangements and bebop? Well, if you or someone you know has been afflicted with this "swing bug", come join us for rehearsals! There will be heavy influence from Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Woody Herman, The Dorsey Brothers, and many more from around the 1930's and 40's. Swing music is so great for dancing, and LIVE swing music is even better!
Once we get going strong, my goal is to play at least a couple of hour-long sets once per month so local swing dancers can get their exercise with a live band. As a musician, it is so exhilarating to see people twirling and jumping around in front of you. Swing music is good for the heart and soul of those that play and those that dance and those that listen. Re-discovering Swing Music can be part of your self-care!
Reading music is a lot like riding a bicycle: maybe you are a little rusty, but it comes back to you quickly once you get going. Challenge yourself and join us! This is a very new group in its early stages of organizing. I do not yet have a rehearsal venue or schedule worked out. If the project appeals to you, message me, join the group, and be part of the Legacy Swing Music Project (Spokane)!
